Mr. Barton Williams

In your own words, what is your role as a school board member?

There are so many moving parts to the Board of Education, and every day is a learning experience you have to be willing to learn quickly. It is our job to stay informed on situations so that when we are approached by a parent or member of the community, we have an answer; if we don’t have an immediate answer, we will find the answer and get back with them as soon as possible.

Why did you want to become a member of the school board?

Our children’s education is very important to me. This is a position that affects nearly everyone in Bedford County.

Outside of serving on the school board, what is your full-time job, and how long have you been in your present work?

I retired in November of 2024. I was the shop manager at Lee Adcock Construction. Before that I was at Nationwide Express for over 13 years where I served in many different positions.

Tell us about your family.

My amazing wife is Rachel. We have been married for nearly 19 years. Our daughter is Bethany, and our grandson is Felix.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Your paI loves being on our local radio stations WLIJ and WZNG. I started back in 1990 with my best friend the late Rusty Reed. I love hunting and fishing, going to the beach with my family and hanging out in my garage.

How many years have you served as a school board member?

I was elected in August of 2022.

From your time serving on the school board, what are you most proud of?

Being able to stay true to our 5,10 & 15 year goals and visions of the board. Also, seeing our students graduate from our system each year and the smiles on their faces; it really warms my heart when they give me a hug.

What area or areas of Bedford County do you represent?

I represent the 7th District. Link to Bedford County district map.
