Mrs. Shanna Boyette

In your own words, what is your role as a school board member?

My role is to serve and support all students, faculty and families in our Bedford County community.

Why did you want to become a member of the school board?

Being an active member of the community has always been important to me as well as advocating and serving the citizens of Bedford County. School board membership offers a way to give back to my community and to serve a school system that provided my education and fostered my love of learning from an early age. Education is vital in the success of our students and for our community. Therefore, I wanted to be an active part of supporting the efforts of our school system.

Outside of serving on the school board, what is your full-time job, and how long have you been in your present work?

I have been in civil service for most of my professional career serving in municipal government since 2001. My current position is with Bedford County Government serving as the human resources director, a position I have been in since 2020.

Tell us about your family.

I have been married to Jason Boyette for 25 years. Jason teaches at Thomas Magnet School and has taught for 26 years with Bedford County Schools. Also, he serves as Bedford County Commissioner for District 8. We have two daughters, Kylie and Olivia Boyette. Kylie is a 2024 SCHS graduate and is currently enrolled at MTSU for her undergraduate degree in education. She also works at J Jordan Boutique and teaches dance at Inspire Dance Academy here in Shelbyville. Olivia is a sophomore at SCHS and a member of the SCHS Varsity Cheer Team. Olivia also works at J Jordan boutique, has an internship at Salon Synergy here in Shelbyville and dances for Inspire Dance Academy. We are members of Fairlane Church of Christ where Jason serves a Deacon, and the girls teach Sunday School for the 1-2 year old class.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I enjoy reading and watching movies as well as spending time with my family and friends. Cheering on the University of Tennessee Volunteers, Lady Vols, MTSU Raiders and Raiderettes and the Tennessee Titans are also favorite pastimes. I also love traveling, especially to the beach!

How many years have you served as a school board member?

I was appointed in 2022 and was elected in 2024.

From your time serving on the school board, what are you most proud of?

It is difficult to name just one. I am most proud of of our teachers, students and administrative staff who have worked diligently, studied and provided academic resources that have resulted in our current test scores throughout the system. However, I am also proud of our new infrastructure and our continued efforts set forth in our strategic goals for additional infrastructure needs within the school system. I am equally proud and grateful of our partnership with Bedford County Government and how well we as a school board work together together in meetings and workshops to advocate for our school system, faculty and students.

What area or areas of Bedford County do you represent?

I was elected to serve and represent the citizens of District 8. I also serve as the legislative representative for the school board. Link to Bedford County district maps.
