Mr. David Brown

In your own words, what is your role as a school board member?

I am a advocate for the children and staff of Bedford County.

Why did you want to become a member of the school board?

When my children were in school, Lisa and I were involved in their lives. My involvement in band boosters at Cascade caused me to be at school many hours. It was important for us to be plugged into their lives. However, it occurred to me that I could be more involved and part of the system that oversees education by being elected to the school board. I felt my convictions were much the same as those in this county. I wanted to be a part of the decisions involving the education system of this county.

Outside of serving on the school board, what is your full-time job, and how long have you been in your present work?

I am the pastor of Christ Baptist Church in Rutherford County. Since moving here in the summer of 2000, I have watched the growth of this area, especially Rutherford County. I felt there was a great need for a church that taught the Bible verse by verse every time we meet. After many years of praying about it, we began seven years ago and started Christ Baptist Church with the help of two other churches. It has been rewarding and a great challenge of faith.

Tell us about your family.

I have been married to Lisa, 31 years this coming May. She is a veterinarian. Prior to ministry I was an RN. We have two children, Anna and Austin. Anna is an RN in Tullahoma and married to Isaac who is an IT engineer. My son Austin lives in Huntsville, AL, and is a computer engineer.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

We love to travel, camp and hike especially with my family. In my spare time, I turn bowls, Christmas ornaments, game calls and just about anything I can think of on my wood lathe. Working with wood has always been a hobby. When I was in high school, I wanted to build houses for a living.

How many years have you served as a school board member?

I have served for eight years and was reelected in August 2024 for my third term. I love serving on the BCS Board of Education.

From your time serving on the school board, what are you most proud of?

Building projects always top my list because it reveals the great need for facilities to meet the needs of Bedford County. We are a county that is growing. It is also a reminder of how much team work it takes to accomplish building projects. Aside from this, I am very proud of how everyone's goal is the education of our children and the care of employees. We are meeting and exceeding standards and getting the attention of other school systems. That's exciting!

What area or areas of Bedford County do you represent?

I represent the 1st District. Link to Bedford County district map.
