Mr. Brian Crews

In your own words, what is your role as a school board member?

My role is to serve and be an advocate for all the students, teachers and residents of Bedford County.

Why did you want to become a member of the school board?

As a graduate of Shelbyville Central High School and a product of Bedford County Schools, I wanted to give back to the institutions that invested in me. I am forever grateful for the teachers, coaches and administrators who helped mold me into the individual I am today. As a Bedford County school board member, I hope to serve in a capacity that continues to provide awesome opportunities to the students we serve.

Outside of serving on the school board, what is your full-time job, and how long have you been in your present work?

In 2024, after 24 years in law enforcement with the Shelbyville Police Department, I joined Cooper Steel where I serve as the corporate security manager.

Tell us about your family.

My wife Amanda and I were born and raised in Bedford County. Together we have two daughters, Suzanna and Sara Emery. Suzanna is a junior at Cascade High School where she plays both volleyball and basketball and is involved in Student Council, FCA and the Interact Club. Sara Emery is a fourth grader at Thomas Magnet School where she plays basketball and is a member of the Junior Beta Club.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time you will most likely find me in a gym cheering for my daughters’ sports teams, at Murphy Center watching the MTSU Lady Raiders or in Neyland Stadium supporting my beloved VOLS.

How many years have you served as a school board member?

I was first elected to the Bedford County School Board in 2014.

From your time serving on the school board, what are you most proud of?

I am most proud of the opportunity I get each year to shake the hand of the graduates as they accept their high school diploma. The experience allows me to appreciate the hard work of each individual who reached this milestone and imagine the opportunities it presents to each of them.

What area or areas of Bedford County do you represent?

While I am elected to represent the people of District 2, I work hard to represent all of Bedford County and strive to do what is best for all students, teachers and parents throughout our school district. Link to Bedford County district map.
